Headspace Illawarra
Now Open!
Headspace Illawarra will start seeing young people aged 12 to 25 at our integrated youth centre in Wollongong on 6th February 2008. You can visit headspace Illawarra if you live in the area between Helensburgh and Gerroa. Headspace Illawarra is providing bulk-billed psychological treatment for young people referred by GPs to our clinical psychology service.

The inaugural South Coast Labour Council Women’s Conference is open to all women on the south coast whether in paid or unpaid employment, studying or retired from the workforce. The conference is a mix of guest speakers, plenary sessions and workshops. The focus is on remembering our past struggles while identifying those struggles we are still to deal with.

Hey, Hey, It’s Esther Blueburger is a coming-of-age comedy that explores what it’s really like to be an outsider in your own world.
Esther (newcomer, Danielle Catanzariti) is not like other girls; she befriends a duck, talks to God through the toilet and break-dances at her bar-mitzvah. Her all-girls private school is a daily torment of mind-numbing conformity and bell-ringing rituals. Home is a pressure cooker driven by her mother, Grace’s (Essie Davis) demand for perfection. But life changes when Esther meets Sunni (Keisha Castle-Hughes) and her mother, Mary (Toni Collette). She learns that it’s ok to be different and being true to yourself is more important than fitting in.

There will be a series of 5 mural painting workshops leading up to Young Women’s Fest. The workshops will involve young women participating in the design and painting of a mural inspired by the 3 phases of feminism which will be on the wall in the Drop In Room at the Youth Centre.

This event brings together women from across the region to recognise and celebrate the achievements and successes of women in the region. It is also an opportunity to highlight and discuss the challenges that women still face.
The luncheon raises funds for Carinya Cottage, a program run by The Salvation Army to provide assistance to women and women with children experiencing domestic violence, homelessness or some other personal crisis.

Young Women’s Fest – Festival Event
Young Women’s Fest will be a day about information, participation and celebration. The festival will host local female performers, a BBQ and various women’s services stalls.

Divas Day Out
Share a day of singing and music with Out of the Blue Singers.
Time: 9:30 am – 4 pm
Location: Ribbonwood Community Centre Dapto (Disabled access available)
Cost: $40 includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea, music and learning CD/audio tape.
Out of the Blue Singers will also perform at the International Women’s Day 100 Years Celebration Concert – see details below.
Expressions of interest close February 29th
• An opportunity to sing and perform with other women and to an audience of friends and family and new acquaintances.
• An opportunity to step out of the shower and be a Diva for the day.
• An opportunity to be courageous and creative while having a lot of fun.
• An opportunity to leave the domestic goddess at home.
• An opportunity for women to join in voice with other women and create fantastic harmonies, a feeling of the whole being greater than its individual parts, and coming together as one.
Join with other women and sing, sing, sing, and then, your family and friends can come at days end to a performance you’ll be proud of!!

International Women’s Day 100 Years Celebration Concert
A concert presenting Funkier than Alice, Out of the Blue Singers, and the International Women’s Day Divas Chorus, Anemone, BollywoodXclusive and Hypaflex hip hop, along with other local culturally diverse female performers and speakers.
Time: 7:30pm
Location: Diggers - Wollongong RSL Club Auditorium, Church Street Wollongong (Disabled access available)
Cost: $15 adult, $10 concession

Wollongong City Council – Student's Morning Tea – by invitation only
Supported by Wollongong City Council
Guest speakers will be 4 women from the Illawarra. All have succeeded at attaining their goals, in different fields of endeavour.

Looking Back, Moving Forward: A Century of women’s wisdom and action
A time for women involved in the community services either as workers or participants, to come together and share their journey with others from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Guest speakers, entertainers and lunch will be provided.
